Biography

Jessica Hebert, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. Her research focuses on the long-term effects of acute kidney injury on subsequent pregnancy, maternal, and offspring health. 

Dr. Hebert received her BA in Biology and Chemistry (Spanish minor) at Minnesota State University - Moorhead in 2007 and earned a PhD in Biology from Portland State in 2018. Her dissertation, under Dr. Terry Morgan at OHSU, focused on maternal pathology and fetal effects on placental development and long-term health. Her first postdoctoral fellowship was at OHSU Ob/Gyn studying placental mitochondrial function affected maternal metabolic disorders and fetal sex. Her second postdoctoral fellowship was at OHSU APOM under Dr. Michael Hutchens studying the efficacy of drugs on rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury in order to prevent long-term renal disease.

In addition to her research, Dr. Hebert is an international award-winning public science communicator and an emcee for Science on Tap. She is also a musician and singer-songwriter with The PDX Broadsides, a nerdy pop folk trio, and the lead singer of The Featles, an all-reproductive scientist band.
