Biography
Jessica “Jessie” Flynn, M.D., is a family doctor and Interim Department Chair of OHSU Family Medicine.
Dr. Flynn was born and raised in New York City. She majored in French and theater at the University of Michigan. Originally her plan was to become an educator, which changed, and she then completed post-baccalaureate premedical school requirements. Jessie’s beginnings in family medicine started early, through her work as a medical assistant for a family physician while preparing to attend medical school. She continued her education at Michigan and received her medical degree from the university's medical school.
Dr. Flynn has built her career at OHSU Family Medicine South Waterfront Clinic, starting as a resident in the Portland Family Medicine Residency Program from 2003-2006 and being named Chief Resident from 2006-2007. Her clinical focus is on comprehensive family medicine, including care of patients of all ages and events in their lives, serving them through clinics, care facilities, the hospital, phone and virtual visits – and even in their homes. Jessie’s areas of research and scholarly interest include inpatient family medicine training, transitions of care, the patient-centered primary care home, leadership, and quality. She is also a Bridges Collaborative Care Clinic board member and the OHSU Professional Board Chair-Elect.
Dr. Flynn has been instrumental in developing and enhancing the department’s inpatient services, including maternity care, and was vital in assisting with the development of the family medicine inpatient program at Hillsboro Medical Center as the department expanded over the last 15+ years regionally. She was appointed Medical Director for Inpatient and Maternity Services, and Residency Associate Residency Director in 2016, and was named Director of Inpatient Care and Quality in 2018.
Over the years, Dr. Flynn has consistently been ranked as a Portland Top Doctor for Family Medicine by Portland Monthly, and has received awards including the OHSU Gender Equity in Academic Health & Medicine (GEAHM) Award for Clinical Excellence and the OHSU Professional Board award “Outstanding Contribution to innovation in new models of clinical care & interdisciplinary teams.” Additionally, Jessie has received a departmental mentorship award nine times.
Dr. Flynn was named Interim Department Chair in 2026.
