Biography

As assistant vice provost for Education Outreach and Collaboration at OHSU, Dr. Lockhart leads statewide K-16 STEM education initiatives, overseeing OHSU’s Office of Science Education Opportunities (SEO). He fosters partnerships with schools, universities, and industry leaders to enhance health science pathways and develop strategic, scalable programs that prepare students for high-impact careers. His efforts include supporting educators with professional development opportunities and resources to strengthen STEM instruction, ensuring students receive high-quality, hands-on learning experiences. Additionally, he champions initiatives that translate OHSU’s cutting-edge scientific and healthcare research into accessible community education, bridging the gap between discovery and public understanding. His work extends to shaping policy recommendations, securing funding, and integrating innovative outreach models that connect education, research, and workforce development. He currently serves on the Oregon Department of Education Stem Investment Council, Portland Public School’s Career and Technical Education Advisory Board, and Portland Workforce Alliance.



Dr. Jarrod W. Lockhart is a strategic leader and ecosystem architect with over 24 years of experience expanding educational access, strengthening workforce pathways, and advancing STEM and health career opportunities. He specializes in building sustainable networks that connect academia, industry, and communities to support student success and workforce development.

Previously, Dr. Lockhart served as director of the Health Careers Exposure Program (HCEP) Academy and associate director of the Office for Educational Outreach & Health Careers Pathway Initiatives at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM). There, he secured over $8 million in grant funding, increased partnerships over 200%, and developed STEAM/healthcare initiatives for over 18,000 students. His work extended across Georgia and spanned multiple states as his programs expanded to rural and virtual initiatives. As faculty in the Department of Community Health & Preventive Medical where he taught Community Health to first-year medical students, emphasizing research, the role of storytelling in healthcare, and the importance of treating communities as patients.



He also serves as founder and CEO of J. Wesley Lockhart Consulting where he advises academic, corporate, and government organizations on program development, funding acquisition, and organizational strategy. He has served on multiple non-profit boards across the nation and over 15 advisory boards across Georgia and beyond. His work in education was formally recognized on December 12, 2023, when the City of South Fulton, Georgia, declared it Dr. Jarrod Wesley Lockhart Day.
