Heidi S. Feiler, Ph.D., M.A.

  • Research Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, School of Medicine
  • Scientific Program Manager, OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine, School of Medicine

Dr. Feiler is a Research Associate Professor and the Scientific Program Manager for the OHSU Center for Spatial System Biomedicine (OCSSB). Her work focuses on elucidating the genomic, transcriptional and proteomic abnormalities by which breast and pancreatic cancers arise, progress and respond to therapy. She studies the mechanisms by which these abnormalities contribute to cancer pathophysiologies and influence response to gene targeted therapies. Long-term goals are to develop strategies for earlier detection of cancers at high risk of progression to metastatic disease and more durable therapeutic approaches for advanced cancers .

Dr. Feiler is the Scientific Program Manager of three NIH-awarded Centers at OHSU:

(1) a NCI Cancer Systems Biology Consortium Center (U54) aimed at modeling the influence of tumor heterogeneity on therapeutic resistance.

(2) a NIH Library of Integrated Network-Based Cellular Signature (LINCS) Perturbation-Induced Data and Signature Generation Center (U54) aimed at understanding the influence of microenvironmental perturbations on cell signaling network behavior.

(3) a NCI Human Tumor Atlas Network (U2C) OMS Atlas Center that performs comparative ‘omic and multiscale image analyses of responsive and resistant metastatic breast lesions within individual patients to discover mechanisms of resistance so they can be attacked therapeutically.

Collaborating institutions involved in these programs include Harvard Medical School, the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of California at Berkeley, University of California at San Francisco, University of California at Los Angeles, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, City of Hope National Medical Center and Stanford University.
