Erika Malaspina (she/her)

Biography

I am a second-year PhD student in the Health and Clinical Informatics program. Prior to OHSU, I got my bachelor's degree in Mathematical and Computational Science and my master's degree in Biomedical Informatics. I then went on to work as a research assistant at the John R. Graham Headache Center and Renthal Lab in Boston, MA. In the headache clinic, I assisted with a clinical trial studying the efficacy of Botox for episodic migraine. The rest of my time was spent using a HIPAA-compliant version of OpenAI's GPT to extract headache data from unstructured EHRs. I am still in the process of narrowing down my primary research focus.

Outside of research, I am involved in the track and field community, having been both a competitive athlete and a coach. I am now retired so these days reading and knitting are more my speed.
