Brennan Baylis (she/her)
Biography
I’m a D.N.P. student (Family Nurse Practitioner track) at the Portland campus and a previous AccBacc survivor. Prior to pursuing nursing, I received a B.A. and M.A. in African politics which gave me opportunities across Europe and Africa – from journalism, humanitarian work, investigative research, and lecturing at the British University in Cairo. After a yoga teacher training that re-ignited my interest in anatomy and health, I went back to school in 2022 for nursing at OHSU, almost 8 years after finishing my M.A.. Re-learning how I best study and approach unfamiliar material was a huge part of my process, and I hope that I help students find that through study skills, personalized learning, collaboration, and clarification of topics. I also think a lot of it comes down to confidence as well as asking for help (there’s no shame!), and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to foster that.
When I’m not in clinicals or class, I’m either trying to spend as much time outside with friends or cuddling with my cats (fun fact, I got them in 2016 while teaching in Egypt, and they’ve come through 5 different countries with me).
