Bill Rooney, Ph.D., is the director of the Advanced Imaging Research Center, a professor in behavioral neurosciences at the OHSU School of Medicine, and a scientist-inventor focused on the development and application of quantitative magnetic resonance techniques to characterize tissue structure and function.    In the lab, he’s working to phenotype brain blood vessels using dynamic MRI acquisitions combined with pharmacokinetic modeling—and to apply these techniques to learn how brain blood vessels change in disease processes such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease, and brain tumors. Dr. Rooney also investigates cellular metabolism and its relationship to tissue degeneration. Using 31P and 1H magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques, he investigates the relationship between defects in energy metabolism and tissue loss.    Dr. Rooney joined OHSU in 2005 after working as a scientist and scholar at the University of California San Francisco and Brookhaven National Laboratory.
