Aoi Nathalia Mizushima, M.D. (she/her)
Biography
Dr. Mizushima is a physician who is honored to join the OHSU Student Health and Wellness team. She is a first-generation college grad and was raised by her mother who is Jarocha (native to Veracruz, México) and by her father who is from a rural fishing village by the Japan Sea.
Being immersed in the traditional ways of both of her parents, she understands that people’s unique perceptions about their health and well-being have roots embedded within their cultural upbringing, their environment, and their sense of belonging.
She is a believer that it is important to pay attention to the nuances of what is really being asked by her patients before jumping into a diagnosis and treatment plan and strives to cultivate a space that is confidential, non-judgmental and one that celebrates people for who they are.
When not in the clinic, Aoi can be found doing a medley of other things. She is a lover of experimenting with new spice combinations in the kitchen, cherry blossoms, changing Fall colors, swimming, anything related to quality time with loved ones, and enjoying musical communities (having sung with PSU’s mariachi for two years she is now learning to play the jarana for a Son Jarocho group).
Dr. Mizushima received her MD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at OHSU. She looks forward to seeing patients who have a specific health concern, and equally welcomes patients who want to come in for a general wellness check and talk about how to prevent illness and/or how to stay healthy while juggling life as a student.
