Michelle Scheurich, M.D., M.S.W.

Biography

Dr. Michelle Scheurich is a family physician. She has a special interest in maternity/obstetrics care, addiction medicine, developmental disabilities and global health.

For many years before medical school, Dr. Scheurich was an emergency room social worker. She loved the opportunity to support patients and families on what often felt to them like the worst day of their lives. She saw then how sacred the physician-patient relationship was. That, along with wanting to understand the whole person -- both biologically and psychologically -- is what drew her to becoming a doctor herself.

During medical school, Dr. Scheurich had the chance to care for people in medically underserved areas in Central America and Asia. This helped to underscore for her that health care can be a great equalizer, and that it is a fundamental human right. She chose family medicine because she wants to develop the skills to care for anyone in her community who needs help.

Outside of work, Dr. Scheurich and her partner like to go hiking with their two Golden Retrievers and watch movies. She loves reading, cooking and dreaming up new recipes based on the contents of the refrigerator. She also likes to run (very slowly) and lift weights.
