Biography

Megan A. Cohen, M.D., M.P.H. is an Instructor and Complex Family Planning Fellow in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She received her M.D. and Master’s in Public Health in Global Epidemiology at Emory University in 2014. She completed residency in OB/GYN at OHSU in 2018. She then spent two years as a Global Women's Health Fellow at Johns Hopkins University, where she worked on emergency obstetric training in Myanmar and improving intrapartum outcomes in India. She additionally helped develop and run a workshop preparing women’s health practitioners for international work, which was pioneered at the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Annual Clinical Meeting in May 2019. Following her Global Health Fellowship, she was thrilled to return to OHSU to complete a Complex Family Planning Fellowship.

Dr. Cohen provides general OB/GYN care and has special interests in family planning and global health.

Dr. Cohen’s research focuses on increasing contraceptive uptake and continuance by improving side effect profiles, reducing barriers to use, and increasing access to contraception. She additionally has interest in improving peripartum outcomes and reducing reproductive health disparities in the US and abroad. Her current research projects includes (1) Examining the impact of Oregon’s Reproductive Health Equity Act on continuation and uptake of effective contraception in Oregon, (2) Cochrane review on COVID-19, hormonal contraception, and thrombosis risk, (3) Pre-departure training for global women’s health practitioners, (4) Barriers and facilitators to provider uptake of a clinical-decision support tool to improve maternal and neonatal health outcomes in India and (5) Review on second trimester surgical termination internationally.
