Biography

Jane M. Zhu, MD, MPP, MSHP, is a practicing primary care physician and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University. She serves as Faculty Research Lead for the Division, providing strategic leadership for faculty research development, mentorship, and collaborative initiatives. Dr. Zhu is core faculty at the Center for Health Systems Effectiveness and holds a secondary appointment in Health Systems Management & Policy at the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health.

Dr. Zhu is a health services researcher whose work examines health care access and quality, with a particular focus on mental and behavioral health services and the effects of provider incentives and organizational structure on care delivery. She is currently Principal Investigator on three R01 grants funded by the National Institutes of Health and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, as well as several foundation-funded research awards. Her research has been published in leading journals, including JAMA, The New England Journal of Medicine, and Health Affairs, and has been widely cited in federal and state policy reports. Her work has also been featured in national media outlets including The New York Times, Reuters, The Washington Post, and CBS News.

Dr. Zhu received her bachelor’s degree in global health and international development from Duke University, where she was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship. She earned dual degrees in medicine and public policy from Harvard Medical School and the Harvard Kennedy School. She completed internal medicine residency training at the University of California, San Francisco, and was subsequently selected as a National Clinician Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Zhu is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and serves on regional and national committees for the Society of General Internal Medicine, the American College of Physicians, and the National Academy of Medicine.
