Biography
Dr. Cristian Mendoza Ruvalcaba, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, CPNP-PC, CNE (he/him/él) is an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the School of Nursing. He is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner practicing in Southern Oregon. In addition, he holds certification as a Nurse Educator (CNE) through the National League for Nursing.
Dr. Mendoza-Ruvalcaba’s clinical interests include pediatric primary care, LGBTQIA+ healthcare, and family-centered health promotion and disease prevention for monolingual Spanish-speaking populations. His scholarly interests focus on Trauma-Informed Educational Practices (TIEP), quality improvement in online education through Quality Matters standards, and peer-review processes in higher education. He is an active leader in health policy and advocacy, serving as an elected member of the Oregon Nurses Association Cabinet on Health Policy and as a representative to the American Nurses Association Membership Assembly.
Dr. Mendoza-Ruvalcaba is an established leader in faculty governance at the school, university, and state levels. He currently serves as President of the School of Nursing Faculty Assembly (2026–2027 academic year), Faculty Senator representing the School of Nursing Faculty at Oregon Health & Science University (2025–2028), and Senator and Executive Committee member of the Oregon Interinstitutional Faculty Senate representing OHSU faculty (2025–2028). Through these leadership roles, he contributes to shared governance, academic policy development, and advocacy for faculty across Oregon’s public and health sciences institutions.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Mendoza-Ruvalcaba enjoys traveling, cycling, and weightlifting.
