Biography

Chris is a NLM Post-doctoral fellow as well as a Health and Clinical Informatics PhD Candidate in the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology. He is also a part-time practicing physical therapist with a focus on orthopedic manual physical therapy. His informatics interests are in the facilitators and barriers to effective utilization of clinical information systems by clinicians and managers in their decision making process specifically focused on optimizing clincal quality and value.

Prior to his time at OHSU Chris had roles assisting physical therapy practices implement clinical information systems, integrate clinical data into decision making, utilize of clinical outcomes to guide decision making, and ensure the safety of manual therapy interventions. He has conducted past research exploring the psychometrics of patient reported quality of life measures in physical therapy, the safety of cervical manipulation, the predictors of patient utilization of PT services for low back pain, and the comparative effectiveness of various internal fixation techniques for clavicular fractures.

Chris’ current research focuses on the sociotechnical influences organizations can have on managers overseeing clinical quality among their other duties. He leads a team in a qualitative study of managers across several organization. His research utilizes aspects of implementation science to help organizations better support their system users to harness the full power of clinical information systems.
