Andrew Palmer, Ph.D., CCC-SLP

  • Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Laryngology, School of Medicine

Andrew Palmer has been part of the NW Center for Voice and Swallowing since completing his Clinical Fellowship at OHSU in 2001. He earned his master's degree in communicative disorders at San Francisco State University and completed his Ph.D. at Portland State University. His clinical focus is in the area of head and neck cancer rehabilitation and dysphagia. He regularly performs Modified Barium Swallow studies, Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) exams, and clinical swallowing evaluations as well as treatment for adults with swallowing problems of various kinds. He also sees those undergoing rehabilitation after treatment for head and neck cancer both on an inpatient and an outpatient basis, including those who have undergone total laryngectomy and require rehabilitation including with the tracheoesophageal puncture (TEP). He is the internship coordinator for Speech Pathology interns for the program and supervises the Speech Pathology Clinical Fellows in their research rotations each year. In conjunction with other members of the department, he teaches a FEES course at OHSU annually and has taught FEES courses nationally. Research interests include aging and social relationships, normal and disordered swallowing, and rehabilitation outcomes in voice and swallowing.
