Oregon CAH QI Site Visits Held at Grande Ronde and Lower Umpqua Hospitals

Oregon Critical Access Hospital (CAH) quality improvement (QI) staff from both the eastern and western regions of the state recently came together for in-person connections and collaboration. Regional site visits were hosted by Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande and Lower Umpqua Hospital in Reedsport. These visits offered valuable opportunities for QI professionals from different CAHs to network with peers in similar roles, exchange ideas and tour the host facilities to learn how other CAHs structure and operate their quality programs. Each site led an educational experience focused on quality improvement.

Highlights from Grande Ronde Hospital included:

  • Sepsis education initiatives;
  • Insights into the structure of the quality department;
  • Creative strategies for recruiting members to the Patient and Family Advisory Committee (PFAC); and
  • Innovative approaches to using quality data informatics.

  Highlights from Lower Umpqua Hospital included:

  • A look at the evolution of their hospital-wide quality improvement efforts;
  • Information sharing and lessons learned from departments, including laboratory, trauma, and accreditation;
  • Sharing initiatives from unit-based practice councils and the PFAC; and
  • Tools and strategies focused on fostering a positive organizational culture.

  A sincere thank you to the teams at Grande Ronde and Lower Umpqua Hospitals for their generosity in sharing these insights and best practices with their peers!
