Other Loan Repayment Programs

The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) offers loan repayment and scholarship opportunities to licensed health care providers and students committed to working in underserved communities. In exchange for a service commitment at an NHSC-approved site in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA), participants can receive substantial loan repayment support. NHSC programs support primary care, mental health, dental, and substance use disorder providers nationwide.
The Faculty Loan Repayment Program (FLRP) , administered by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), provides loan repayment assistance to health professions faculty from disadvantaged backgrounds who commit to serving at an accredited health professions school. Participants may receive up to $40,000 in loan repayment in exchange for a two-year teaching commitment, with potential for additional support to cover taxes. The program helps strengthen the health care workforce by supporting those who train the next generation of clinicians.
The Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program forgives the remaining balance on federal Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time for a qualifying public service employer. Eligible employers include government organizations and most nonprofits. PSLF is not considered a competing service obligation and can be pursued alongside state-funded programs like Oregon’s incentive initiatives, please visit the PSLF website for more information.
