Continuing Education: Suicide Prevention and Postvention Trainings in Oregon
ORH is sharing the following message on behalf of our partners at the Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA’s) Public Health Division.
OHA’s 2025 Suicide Prevention Training Data Report to the Legislature highlights growing participation and the impact of Oregon's 2022 law requiring suicide prevention training for behavioral health workers. Oregon health care professionals have access to a range of suicide prevention and postvention trainings that qualify for continuing education credits.
“Addressing Firearm Safety with Patients at Risk of Suicide” is particularly valuable for rural providers working in communities where firearm access is common. Offered by St. Charles Health System and Oregon State University, this free, one-hour self-paced course provides practical, evidence-based tools for discussing firearm safety with patients at risk of suicide, with a focus on rural cultural context and de-escalation skills. It is approved for 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit and meets Oregon's Cultural Competence CE requirement for a broad range of licensed professions. Find more information and access the course materials here.
Additional OHA-approved trainings include the Big Rivers suite of trainings, offering a comprehensive approach to the continuum of suicide prevention care. More information can be found here.
