The Peaceful Presence Project was founded to serve as a bridge between health systems and the community-based, nonmedical care that people living with serious illness and grief rely on. After years of educational and capacity building efforts, the Peaceful Presence Project officially announces the launch of the Oregon Network for Serious Illness Support (ONSIS) — a statewide initiative that has been in development since 2023.

The ONSIS website is a first-of-its-kind, Oregon-based network designed to connect trained end-of-life doulas, community health workers and other patient navigators with health care providers, community partners and individuals seeking non-medical support to complement their medical care. This unique, public-facing statewide website serves as a centralized referral and visibility platform, making it easier for professionals to collaborate across sectors and for community members to locate trusted support close to home.

Partners can utilize ONSIS in several ways:

  • Refer patients, clients and families to community-based providers;
  • Join the directory to increase visibility and strengthen referral pathways for serious illness and end of life care;
  • Share the network with local coalitions, clinics, faith communities and service organizations; and
  • Use the platform as a bridge between medical systems and community-based care.

As with any new initiative, ONSIS is an evolving project. The Peaceful Presence Project looks forward to refining and strengthening the network in partnership with communities across Oregon. They invite those who provide serious illness or grief support to consider joining the directory and anyone interested to explore the site and share the network widely with individuals and organizations who may benefit from utilizing or contributing to it.
