OHSU Health Advisory Councils

OHSU Health is a system that today comprises OHSU Healthcare, the OHSU Practice Plan, Hillsboro Medical Center, Adventist Health Portland, as well as dozens of patient care locations throughout the Portland metro area.

The Health System Management Team (HSMT) of OHSU Health, under the direction of John Hunter, M.D., chief executive officer of OHSU Health, is the decision-making body for the health system. There are two HSMT groups: Operations and Strategy.

Advisory councils

Seven councils advise the HSMT; each one has representatives from OHSU, the OHSU Practice Plan, Hillsboro Medical Center and Adventist Health Portland. Below are highlights on each of the seven OHSU Health councils.

Academic Council

  • Chair: Nathan Selden, M.D., Ph.D., interim dean, OHSU School of Medicine
    Oversees and coordinates the development of successful integration of research and education in OHSU Health.

Ambulatory Council

  • Chair: Atif Zaman, M.D., M.P.H., chief clinical officer, OHSU Health
    Oversees and coordinates ambulatory and outpatient strategy and operations across OHSU Health.

Clinical Integration Council

  • Co-chairs: Renee Edwards, M.D., M.B.A., chief medical officer, OHSU Health, and Atif Zaman, M.D., M.P.H., chief clinical officer, OHSU Health
    Oversees and coordinates clinical services development across all OHSU sites, identifying and prioritizing health system clinical integration initiatives and activities.

Finance Council

  • Chair: Jennifer Doll, M.P.A., CPA, chief financial officer, OHSU Healthcare
    Oversees, coordinates and executes budgets, OHSU Health forecasting, revenue cycle, financial performance and value-based care and payment initiatives.

Health Information Technology and Digital Health Council

  • Co-chairs: Bridget Barnes, M.B.A., Ph.D., CHCIO, chief information officer, OHSU Health, and Atif Zaman, M.D., M.P.H., chief clinical officer, OHSU Health
    Guides strategic direction for IT and digital health; connects closely with the Office Of Digital Health.

Operations Council

  • Co-chairs: Joe Ness, M.H.A., B.S.Pharm., chief operating officer, OHSU Health, and Renee Edwards, M.D., M.B.A., chief medical officer, OHSU Health
    Oversees, coordinates and directs the implementation and execution of inpatient clinical operations strategies.

Practice Plan Council

  • Chair: Nathan Selden, M.D., Ph.D., interim dean, OHSU School of Medicine
    Provides mechanisms for broad provider and administrative input on clinical practice activities and advises on management of the aligned clinician enterprise.
