Professor Dawn Dillman, M.D., is the Vice Chair for Education and Director of Medical Student Education for the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Portland, OR.
Dr. Dillman grew up in Iowa and received her B.S. in biology ('94) and M.D. ('98) from the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!), and was honored to be selected for AOA during her senior year. She then completed a Preliminary Medicine program at Sinai Hospital ('99) and Anesthesiology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital ('02) in Baltimore, MD. During her residency she was one of the last chief residents under Dr. Jeffrey Kirsch as program director. After completion of her residency, Dr. Dillman joined the faculty at University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio for a year as a generalist on the regional team. She then followed Dr. Kirsch to join the OHSU faculty in 2003 as a generalist on the regional team.
Dr. Dillman's academic interests include medical education, interprofessional education, simulation, and airway management. She helped co-edit a book, Decision Making in Anesthesiology, 4th Ed, which has been translated into Spanish and Chinese. She has been very involved in the Undergraduate Medical Education curriculum, including being an advisory college lead for the Acute Care College, and a member of the Entrustment Group for the School of Medicine which certifies that students are ready to graduate.
Dr. Dillman lives in Northwest Portland with her two children and variable number of fish. She enjoys playing with her kids, going to movies and museums, and baking.
