About me
Dr. Katie Putnam is a family physician. She is passionate about being a well-rounded family medicine physician while also working in population health and advocating for improved medical care.
During medical school, she did clinical and research work at the Ministry of Health in Palau. She focused on maternal and child health. She has also volunteered at a safety-net clinic and women's clinic through the former Southwest Community Health Center in Portland. These experiences inspired her interest in providing health care centered on communities and families, while also working on research to address public health needs.
Before medical school, Dr. Putnam served as a research assistant at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C. She worked in a laboratory that focused on rare genetic and metabolic disorders.
When she's not working, Dr. Putnam enjoys exploring the outdoors. She enjoys playing group sports, with limited athletic talent, and navigating Portland's food scene. She also enjoys cultivating her home garden, listening to podcasts, reading, traveling and spending time with her husband and two poorly behaved cats.

Insurance
Before scheduling an appointment
- Check your network. If you have health insurance, call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
- Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.
If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Professional and efficient.
Dr Putnam is the best physician we've ever had. She models professionalism, compassion, and care for her patients.
Personable, thorough, listener, and involved me in decision making
I absolutely love Dr. Putnam. She always does such a wonderful job of listening to my concerns and helping me make an informed decision. I always leave her office feeling better than when I arrived.
Love her, she is very personal and always responsive to my concerns.
Caring and knowledgeable
She was great!
Katie anticipates my concerns and prompts me to ask questions. She practices shared decision making.
Dr. Putnam is probably the best doctor I've ever seen. I don't know how she prepares for my visit, but she doesn't have to look at the computer to remember this or that -- she arrives knowing me and my situation. She listens. She cares. I feel we are working together to address my problems and concerns. I feel so fortunate to have a doctor who KNOWS me, is aware of and concerned with whatever medical problems I have, and who treats me as an individual, not a sore throat, broken leg, or whatever. I wish there were more doctors like her.
