About me

Florencia Kantt is originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and grew up primarily in Buenos Aires and in London, United Kingdom. She has extensive training and expertise in adolescent health. Florencia is very passionate about providing and expanding reproductive health care access for teens, as well as improving comprehensive care for the LGTBQ+ community, and health care for traditionally underserved communities and communities of color.

Florencia has led multiple improvement projects in adolescent confidentiality and privacy and has specific expertise and engagement in adolescent sexual health, contraceptive care and adolescent mental health — including the impact of adverse childhood experiences and racialized trauma. Florencia has co-authored medical textbooks focusing on the use of telemedicine for adolescent health care, including sexual and reproductive health for adolescents. During her time with the Division of Adolescent and Young Adult Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, she also led an interdisciplinary team in the development of a Health Equity Guide, which was created to improve the delivery of medical education in a way that promotes inclusion, honors diversity of experiences and recognizes how bias may impact health care delivery. This resource also provides guidance and concrete action steps to support engagement in intentional anti-racism and health equity work.

Prior to joining the OHSU Adolescent Medicine team, Florencia served as director of health services at Perkins School for the Blind and as chief public health officer for the Perkins’ COVID-19 Response in Massachusetts. She has also served as pediatric medical director and chair of pediatrics in the community health setting in Eugene, Oregon.

Florencia has a passion for learning, teaching, serving the community and leading advocacy work. She enjoys working with adolescent patients and their families and finds deep fulfillment in seeing her patients grow into resilient, healthy young adults. Florencia derives her practice and approach to medicine with the understanding of the power that one consistent, caring adult can have in a child’s life.

Florencia is interested in continuing research that might help shift policy in how we approach and serve adolescent patients, particularly as it relates to exploring alternate, innovative methods of health care delivery, eradicating barriers to access care and supporting adolescents’ transition to adult health care. She values collaborating with and supporting clinicians in working effectively with their adolescent patients.

Florencia is an avid sports fan and outdoor and travel enthusiast. In her spare time, she enjoys triathlon training, cycling (competitive road cycling, cycling touring), yoga, indoor volleyball, running, hiking, kayaking, reading mystery novels and attending both collegiate and professional sporting events (always rooting for the Boston Celtics and Oregon Ducks!).
