ORNS Friday night at the ER

Simulation Spotlight: Friday Night at the ER with the Oregon Rural Nurse Scholars

In the Oregon Rural Nurse Scholars (ORNS) program, they know that preparing future nurses to lead in rural health care requires innovative tools and immersive learning experiences. They accomplish this through simulation-based learning that builds teamwork, systems thinking and problem-solving skills.

This year, ORNS scholars will experience Friday Night at the ER, a dynamic simulation game where participants manage a hospital through a series of unexpected challenges. Designed to highlight collaboration, critical decision-making and systems thinking, the activity mirrors the real-world complexity of rural health care, where resources are limited and teamwork is essential.

By engaging with this simulation, ORNS scholars will strengthen competencies in:

  • Team communication;
  • Prioritization and decision-making under pressure;
  • Understanding systems of care across transitions; and
  • Applying problem-solving skills to rural contexts.

ORNS is excited to prepare the next generation of rural nurse leaders, ready to innovate, collaborate and make a difference in the communities they serve.  Learn more here
