Grande Ronde Hospital Recognized Nationally for Achieving Zero CAUTI Rates
Grande Ronde Hospital was included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s recent feature, “518 Hospitals with the Lowest CAUTI Rates,” highlighting U.S. hospitals that achieved a zero catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) rate based on the Healthcare-Associated Infections dataset from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
The CMS database uses measures developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and collected through the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). The standardized infection ratio factors in care location, existing patient infections, laboratory methods, hospital characteristics, patient age, patient health and more. The measures apply to all patients treated in acute care hospitals, including adult, pediatric, neonatal, Medicare and non-Medicare populations.
Grande Ronde Hospital credits this achievement to a collaborative, hospital-wide commitment to patient safety. Efforts contributing to this recognition include:
- Appropriate testing protocols;
- Excellent catheter care practices;
- Ongoing initiatives to reduce catheter utilization;
- A robust antimicrobial stewardship program;
- Collaboration with departmental leaders;
- Daily process reviews for lines and drains; and
- Optimizing infection prevention documentation in Epic.
Lori Graber, RN, infection prevention stated, “This recognition reflects the dedication of our entire health care team.”
The Oregon Office of Rural Health would like to recognize the Grande Ronde Hospital staff, providers and partners who continue to prioritize patient safety and strive for excellence in infection prevention.
