Department of Surgery Annual Golf Tournament
Empowering training for the next generation of surgeons
Each year, the OHSU Department of Surgery Golf Tournament brings together community members to support surgical education and advance academic excellence.
For more than a decade ago, the tournament has raised over $1.5 million, often exceeding $100,000 annually, to benefit surgical residency programs. These funds advance first‑year resident training and improve patient care across Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Why attend
The funds raised from the golf tournament support our efforts to provide cutting-edge training for residents through simulated surgical environments and other essential educational initiatives. These virtual reality simulators, alongside additional training aids, allow residents to safely replicate procedures, enhancing their skills and promoting patient safety in clinical settings. In addition to weekly simulation training, the funds also help cover the costs of sending residents to community sites, where they can gain invaluable hands-on experience in diverse clinical environments. This comprehensive training not only enriches their learning experience but also ensures the highest level of care for the patients they serve.
Over the years, the tournament has been incredibly successful, raising over $100,000 in many years and over $1.5 million over the history of the tournament, thanks to the generosity of donors who share OHSU's commitment to excellence in education, research, clinical care and community service. These contributions have enabled us to continue advancing surgical education and care for adult and pediatric patients throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. These funds are directly supporting our all trainees who spend their first year in our surgical residency program.
In recent years we have used these funds to purchase the Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE) Curriculum, a vital resource for trainees to receive the most comprehensive training in all areas, and other educational resources that enhance surgical education and training. Your participation truly makes a difference in advancing our mission to train the next generation of surgeons.
By attending the OHSU Department of Surgery Golf Tournament, you play a direct role in shaping the future of surgical care. Your participation helps:
- Advance surgical education: Proceeds fund surgical resident training and tools, including Surgical Council on Resident Education (SCORE) Curriculum and simulated surgical environments and virtual reality simulators for residents to safely practice procedures and build skills.
- Strengthen community-based training: Funds enable residents to gain hands‑on experience in diverse clinical settings while expanding access to high‑quality care in the community.
- Connect with leaders and peers: Join faculty, clinicians, alumni, donors and community members who share a commitment to academic excellence.
