PRISM

The Pulmonary and Critical Care & Sleep Medicine (PRISM; www.prismtrials.com) research team is based in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. PRISM was established in 2008 by Akram Khan, MD (MBBS) as the principal investigator to advance research to improve patient outcomes in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and Sepsis. We are part of the Clinical Trials Network for the Prevention and Early Treatment of Acute Lung Injury (PETAL). PETAL is a network of 12 Clinical Centers (CC) and one Clinical Coordinating Center (CCC) funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) to develop and conduct randomized controlled clinical trials to prevent or treat Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) and Sepsis which is the leading cause of ARDS.

PRISM research team is involved in phase II-IV clinical trials in pulmonary clinics and inpatient critical care settings. We have ongoing clinical trials in Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Sepsis, Pulmonary Artery Hypertension, COPD, and Pulmonary Fibrosis.

PRISM Volunteering

PRISM research team performs phase II-IV clinical trials in pulmonary clinics and hospital settings. We have multiple ongoing clinical trials in conditions like pulmonary artery hypertension, COPD, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. We accept highly disciplined volunteers to conduct chart reviews of study subjects/patients using electronic medical records (EPIC) and enter the information in a secure database and support research coordinators. Volunteers are expected to be available at least two half days (8 hours) a week for a period of 12 months. Our offices are located on the 1st floor of Emma Jones Hall, Room 121. Shadowing opportunities will be offered to our volunteers after completion of 6 months of volunteering with PRISM.

Eligibility: Intended for pre-medical students interested in gaining research experience before applying to medical school. International medical graduates interested in gaining experience in phase 2 and phase 3 clinical trials in pulmonary critical care and sleep medicine may also apply.

Interested? Contact: PRISM Volunteer Coordinators with your resume, and a statement of interest/goals for PRISM.
