Where do the nonhuman primates come from?

An outdoor breeding program ensures that the Oregon National Primate Research Center nonhuman primate population is nearly self-sustaining. The original colony of rhesus macaques, numbering 400, came from India. Some animals have been imported from domestic breeding programs located in other countries, such as Cambodia and the Republic of China, but any animals not bred at the Center have been purchased from domestic vendors for the last several years.
