Planning for Family: Fertility for Physicians Workshop
Thursday, May 20, 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Sponsored by the Department of Surgery Gender Equity/DEI committee, led by Dr. Katrine Lofberg, Dr. Niki Steckler, and Dr. Liana Tsikitis, featuring guest speaker Dr. Jamie Peregrine.
Description: The decision to have or not have children and when can be challenging in any field but can be particularly challenging for surgeons. Research has shown that female surgeons have children later in life, have fewer children and report more issues with fertility then the general population. In this session, participants will consider the four major components of fertility evaluation and discuss fertility options. The 1.5 hour interactive learning session will include a presentation by our guest speaker and a group of panelists who will speak about their experiences; there will also be an opportunity for audience participation and questions.
Audience: This workshop is primarily targeted towards Department of Surgery employees interested in learning more about fertility and fertility options, and what the unique challenges are for surgeons and how we can overcome or mitigate these obstacles, as well as discussing what resources are available at OHSU and how the Department of Surgery can continue to improve their policies and practices. However, all are welcome to attend.
