About me
Meera Kanakia became a nurse practitioner to work closely with people and truly influence their health and well-being. She enjoys the challenge of staying up-to-date in a field that is constantly changing. She is especially excited about developments in women's health — a field she is passionate about.
Along with providing excellent primary care, Kanakia strives to be an information resource for her patients by staying updated about the latest health advances.
She came to Portland from Connecticut and chose OHSU because of its excellent reputation. She also wanted to work in an academic institution that offers opportunities for teaching and learning as well as patient care.
When she's not working, Kanakia loves to be outdoors — running, hiking, exploring different neighborhoods and meeting new people. She also loves to read.

Before scheduling an appointment
- Check your network. If you have health insurance, call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
- Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.
If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Meera is a wonderful care provider. She listens and always helps me find the support I need with various health issues. She is compassionate. I think OHSU over schedules primary care and does not give enough time with patients.

I had a family member w/me today, first time she met Meera. 'Wow, she is incredible. She is real. She listens, she cares, she treats w/o being too aggressive. I wish I could come here to see her." I feel very blessed to have her as my care provider.
Meera is fantastic. She always listens and helps me get all the care I need. OHSU doesn't give primary care providers enough time with patients but Meera still does her very best to meet patients needs.

Patient, knowledgeable, listening, always helpful in presenting options then helping to decide appropriate next steps.
As a complex patient with multiple health issues, including pain management, I appreciate her attention to detail in prescribing, and how thoroughly she understands what she is prescribing. It is evident that she takes the time to read the patient history before she walks into the treatment room.
