Mathew Geltzeiler, M.D., is the Director of Sinonasal Oncology and Skull Base Surgery. He is a surgeon who specializes in:

His research interests include:

  • Patient outcomes from the treatment of cancers of the nose and sinuses.
  • The effect of skull base surgery on quality of life and the ability to taste and smell.

Dr. Geltzeiler performs surgical procedures including:

  • Endoscopic skull base surgery: This uses a tool called an endoscope for minimally invasive surgery, with smaller cuts and shorter recovery time.
  • Traditional (open) skull base surgery: This may include cuts in the face and skull.
  • Endoscopic orbital surgery: This relieves symptoms from excess pressure on the eye.
  • Revision endoscopic sinus surgery: This is done when a past sinus surgery didn’t relieve symptoms or a patient still has problems.

He also provides care for:

  • Tumors in the nose and sinuses.
  • Polyps (tissue growths).
  • Sinusitis and fungal sinusitis.

Dr. Geltzeiler studied neuroscience at Brown University and medicine at Boston University School of Medicine, where he graduated summa cum laude.

He completed his residency training in otolaryngology - head & neck surgery at Oregon Health & Science University. Dr. Geltzeiler then spent two years at the University of Pittsburgh, where he completed two fellowships in head and neck oncologic surgery and advanced skull base surgery.
