Biography

Dr. Brett Sheppard is a professor of surgery and vice chair for clinical affairs and quality in the Division of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery in the OHSU School of Medicine. He is also co-director of OHSU's Brenden-Colson Center for Pancreatic Care.

Dr. Sheppard is one of the world's leading [TM1] experts on surgery for diseases of the pancreas, especially pancreatic cancer. He also performs surgery for other diseases of the pancreas and adrenal gland, and for disorders of the stomach and esophagus. When minimally invasive surgery is possible, Dr. Sheppard uses his skills and knowledge in the procedures to help patients recover more quickly and with less discomfort.

Dr. Sheppard is deeply committed to keeping patients safe and to enhancing the quality of surgical care. His passion is learning more through research to help doctors detect pancreatic cancer earlier. Finding cancer earlier will significantly improve patient results from cancer treatment. He also performs research on improving the results of gastrointestinal (digestive system) surgery, and on how to make the best use of minimally invasive surgery techniques.

  • Oct 19, 2019

Hi, I wanted to say that Dr. Sheppard was very compassionate, and he took time to listen to me in what was really going on. He also fit me into his schedule - and I know he was cram packed. So I greatly appreciate all the care and expertise that he provided. Thank you.

  • Oct 18, 2019

My wife and I were both impressed with OHSU. I sent a note to Dr. Sheppard asking a question, but I added that wherever we went at OHSU, we felt well taken care of by good people. I did receive good news! But my comment would have been the same regardless of the news.My brother-in-law used to sit on the BOD, and he told me that OHSU was a cutting edge institution with great doctors and scientists. But he said that beyond that, they're good people. When I had a possible diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, it was an easy choice to come to OHSU.

  • Oct 17, 2019

All around gifted surgeon! Thank you!

  • Oct 17, 2019

First met with Dr. Sheppard's staff member, I believe that was Dr. Krama. Very pleasant and did a very good in taking an "in take" interview. Shortly Dr. Sheppard came in the exam room and went over details of the visit and explain a course of treatment. Very thorough.

  • Oct 15, 2019

Everything about the appointment was professional and thorough. Staff were prepared and anticipated questions and concerns. I Left feeling that all health issues in my apparently complicated case were completely addressed and I have confidence in the plan going forward.

  • Oct 14, 2019

I trust the doctor. He did good job last year and looking forward to have succesful treatment this year also.

  • Sep 26, 2019

I owe and trust my lie with Dr. Shepperd. He always runs late. I understand. When I was first diagnosed w/ my cancer whotook whatever time I needed to answer my questions/concerns. However, since I drive from Grants Pass OR and make the round trip in a day, I appreciate the CT and team working together so I can safely (weather and light) make the round trip in a day.

  • Sep 26, 2019

Been experiencing abdominal pain for months with no explanation as to why until I was referred to OHSU. Not the news I wanted to hear, but at least I finally got an answer

  • Sep 22, 2019

Dr. Sheppard operated on me 9/20/19.

  • Sep 07, 2019

Yes, I got there at about 2 o'clock for a 2:40 meeting, and I didn't get in to see Dr. Sheppard until close to 5. So it was, even though the board said 1 hour delay, it was 2 and a half hours of wait time.

  • Sep 05, 2019

Very warm and inviting staff. They seem very knowledgeable and caring, willing to take the time to help me understand what was happening with me, and so for that, I'm very very thankful.

  • Sep 05, 2019

Other than the dr being 1 hour behind, Dr Sheppard and associates are always super kind and they genuinely make you and your family feel cared for. They take as much time as you need and u never feel rushed.

  • Aug 31, 2019

  • Aug 30, 2019

They were great. Thank you for all the help.

  • Aug 24, 2019

I thought Dr. Sheppard was absolutely fantastic and his young doctor who works with him. I would certainly recommend them to anyone. Absolutely top notch.

  • Aug 23, 2019

The medical assistant and lab person kept telling me that I could leave and I hadn't seen the doctor yet. People there don't seem to know what is going on. Nice folks, but not informed.

  • Aug 22, 2019

  • Aug 08, 2019

Dr Shepherd was very professional, reviewed my records, detailed what he saw, and related that he would put plan together to help me when he gathers all data. He showed great care and concern and I was impressed with his manner and knowledge.

  • Aug 08, 2019

Dr. Sheppard and his staff were informative, kind, personable and most of all professional. There wasn't as long a wait as I had anticipated. This doctor has followed up with me since I was at OHSU to have a bile metal stent installed and was the person that gave my local team the instruction of what tests/procedures could be done; agreed to local chemotherapy. But did insist followup scans were done at OHSU. We had a 3.5hr drive and all was accomplished in a day until I have surgery where we again would be at OHSU to have a Whipple Procedure with the expertise of his team. If not for Dr. Sheppard, I would have pursued this locally. It didn't take any pressure from him to consider it being done at OHSU he is a man I take at his word.

  • Aug 03, 2019
