Simple Steps to Reduce Your Risk
It is estimated that 86 million Americans have prediabetes. Could you be one of them?
A person with prediabetes is at risk for developing type 2 diabetes as well as other medical conditions. The good news is there are simple steps you can take to reduce your risk. To learn how to reduce your risk, attend our one session prediabetes course!
National Diabetes Prevention Program
The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a year-long lifestyle change program. Participants meet in a group with a trained lifestyle coach to learn how to include healthy eating and regular physical activity into their lives. The goal is to achieve modest weight loss to help prevent type 2 diabetes.
Where Healthy Meets Delicious
Come to the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center and learn how to add new foods and spices to simple recipes while improving your cooking skills and staying on a budget! Each class includes a recipe demonstration, taste tests and take-home recipes. Classes are free, no registration required.

Connecting with other people living with diabetes offers opportunities to learn and engage with a community
of people with a shared understanding. The Harold Schnitzer Diabetes
Health Center offers a free monthly meetup group and we also have
community-based support groups listed below as well.

East Portland Community Center

Support group for children and young adults (age 25 and under) and their
families who have type 1 diabetes. Meetings are
focused on activities where kids are active and moving while providing parents an
opportunity to connect with one another.
Mindfulness Breath by Breath
Stress Reduction Drop-in Class
Mindfulness Breath by Breath is an ongoing drop-in class that provides a solid introduction to simple and effective stress reduction methods including various breath and mindfulness practices. Classes include mindfulness instruction, adaptive movement, relaxation practice, and group discussions.

Chap — Children's Healing Art Project
Your child can participate in making art at the Harold Schnitzer Diabetes Health Center with the Children's Healing Art Project! Children’s Healing Arts Project’s in-hospital programs feature a variety of art projects designed to spark each child’s imagination. Next time you schedule your child's appointment ask when CHAP is visiting our center.
