Biography

Dr. Louise Vaz earned her medical degree from the Vanderbilt School of Medicine, in Nashville, Tennessee. She completed her residency in pediatrics at the Seattle Children’s Hospital/University of Washington, and two fellowships at Boston Children’s Hospital, in Boston, Massachusetts: one in pediatric infectious diseases and the other in health services research. She also has a master’s degree in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health.

At Doernbecher, Dr. Vaz is the medical director of the Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy program, which helps children and families transition from the inpatient to outpatient setting for further treatment of their infection.   Additionally, she sees patients in Doernbecher’s general infectious disease clinic and inpatients in the hospital.  She has a special interest in refugee and immigrant health.

Dr. Vaz's research is in optimization of care transitions and the effect of social vulnerability on health outcomes.  She has expertise in care coordination and measurement and is interested in understanding how large health systems can improve care delivery.

In her spare time, Dr. Vaz loves to cook, listen to music, read novels and explore new places. She also speaks Spanish and Portuguese and enjoys spending time with her husband and daughters.
