About me

Dr. Emily Waterman loves working with patients to promote health and healthy behaviors. Her specialty, family medicine, lets her incorporate her diverse interests — including reproductive health and family planning, lifestyle medicine, transgender health, opioid use disorder, and geriatrics — into her work as a primary care doctor.

Dr. Waterman is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Dr. Waterman's interests in medicine and public health developed during a summer she spent teaching English and sex education in a Nicaraguan high school. Her students' different ideas about reproductive health prompted her to learn about the cultural and social context underlying health behaviors. She went on to earn both a medical degree and a master of public health degree. In 2020 she became certified as a Lifestyle Medicine Physician through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine.

Before that, she also studied in Quito, Ecuador, and learned and taught salsa dancing.

Outside of work, Dr. Waterman loves spending time with her family, doing yoga, growing food in her garden, and trying new plant-based recipes.

Insurance

Before scheduling your appointment, we recommend you contact your insurance company to verify that the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is included in your network. Your insurance company will also be able to inform you of any copayments, co–insurance, or deductibles that will be your responsibility. If you proceed in scheduling an appointment and your health insurance benefits do not participate with OHSU providers, your out of pocket liability may be higher. Visit the billing and insurance section of our site for more information.
