Residency Application and Interviews
For the 2026 - 2027 recruitment cycle, the Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency Program will include two interview stages: virtual interviews with a faculty panel in January 2027, followed by in-person interviews in March 2027.
Please note: An OHSU-specific letter of interest is required to be considered for an interview.

To apply to the Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency Program, a solid background in basic physics is required. This can be demonstrated by holding a degree in physics, or a degree in engineering or another physical science, provided that sufficient physics coursework has been completed—approximately the equivalent of a minor in physics.
In addition, residents may enter any medical physics residency educational program if they have successfully completed either:
- a CAMPEP-accredited MS or PhD graduate program, or
- a CAMPEP-accredited certificate program.

OHSU's Medical Physics Residency Program participates in the MedPhys Match and will begin accepting applications on October 7
All applications must be submitted via the MedPhys Match.
Your completed MedPhys Match application should include your official transcripts, a thoughtful personal statement that demonstrates a strong sense of purpose in pursuing medical physics, current CV, reference letters, and an OHSU-specific letter of interest.

For the 2025-2026 recruitment season, for a resident starting on July 1, 2026, the OHSU Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency Program will participate in the MedPhys Match. The application deadline is December 1, 2025.

Visa Requirements
Applicants must have valid U.S. work authorization for the duration of the residency, this may include F-1 OPT (if eligible), a TN visa, or an E-3 visa. Alternatively, you may have other work authorization or can obtain work authorization on your own.
Visa requirements are subject to federal regulations and OHSU policies and may change.

For the 2026 - 2027 recruitment cycle, the Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency Program will include two interview stages: virtual interviews with a faculty panel in January 2027, followed by in-person interviews with Radiation Medicine faculty and staff in March 2027.
Virtual interviews
Virtual interviews will be conducted via WebEx in January 2027. Candidates will participate in a 20‑minute technical interview with the Admissions Committee.
Interview times will be scheduled individually.
Tentative Agenda for In-person Interviews
In-person interviews will be held at OHSU in Portland, Oregon. Prior to the interviews, candidates will give a short presentation (eight minutes plus two minutes for questions) on a topic of their choice. Faculty interviews will follow, with each interview will be 15 minutes and conducted by panels of two faculty physicists.

Resident Salary
Incoming medical physics residents for the 2026 - 2027 academic year will receive a starting salary of $72,344 with a M.S. degree and $79,382 with a Ph.D. degree. Residents will also receive a 3% salary increase upon starting their second year.
Resident Benefits
Residents are provided various plans from which to choose for medical, dental, vision, prescription and life insurances, with optional coverage including disability, AD&D and family coverage. OHSU pays for most of the costs of the monthly premium for employees and part of the costs of the monthly premium for spouses and children.
For the 2026 - 2027 academic year, medical physics resident leave includes: up-to 26 days of paid time off, extended illness leave, conference leave, parental leave, family and medical leave, holiday leave, and much more. In accordance to CAMPEP Standard 2.14, resident may take up to eight weeks (40 workdays) per year over the duration of the residency without requiring an extension in their residency training. Any extended absence beyond what can be accommodated within this limit may result in an extension of training to ensure the resident completes the required 24 months of full-time clinical training.
