Working in conjunction with the OHSU Hospital Decedent Affairs Office, the Autopsy Pathology service conducts autopsies on OHSU patients at the request of the physician or family. There is no charge to the families of patients for this service.  Autopsies are performed not only to investigate cause of death, but to observe disease and the effects of treatment, to educate physicians and medical staff, to provide quality assurance data for the hospital, and for tissue banking and research. We conduct the procedure with the ultimate respect and care and have as our goal to provide valuable information and closure for families who permit autopsies on their loved ones.
