About me

Dr. Sophia Bornstein is a radiation oncologist treating breast cancer and offering palliative radiation (all sites). Dr. Bornstein often uses heart-sparing techniques (prone, partial breast) and when appropriate provides shorter treatment courses, such as hypofractionated and ultra hypofractionated radiation therapy, which involve treatments given at a higher dose but spread over a shorter period of time, so that the total treatment dose remains the same.

Dr. Bornstein likes to make shared decisions with patients regarding their options, based on their values and beliefs. She provides state-of-the-art treatment aimed at preventing recurrence and minimizing side effects. She enjoys working in a multidisciplinary setting with surgeons, medical oncologists, social workers, radiologists and pathologists, as well as teaching residents and medical students.

Dr. Bornstein loves music and currently plays jazz piano. She enjoys traveling abroad, hiking, comedy and animals.

Clinical expertise and special focus: Personalized medicine, Partial breast radiation, Prone breast radiation, Palliative care/Quality of Life

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Visit our billing and insurance page for more information.

Ratings and reviews

Overall: 4.6 out of 5 (95 Ratings, 6 Reviews)

The patient ratings score is an average of all responses to the question "How likely would you be to recommend this provider to your family and friends (on a scale of 0 to 10)" on our nationally-recognized NRC patient surveys.

  1. Sophia was skilled, yet compassionate. She has provided hope throughout this process.

  2. I really like Dr.Bernstein and appreciate her knowledge of my issue. My local doctors seem to have less knowledge of this rate issue and were not able to give me info that she did.

  3. She listens to me and answers questions in a way that I can understand

  4. She remembered previous visits and could respond to the specific questions I asked. She set my mind at ease regarding previously submerged lump that was now at the surface.

  5. Radiologist was late by half hour, only spent 12 minutes with me. Seemed rushed. Seemed odd to have me lift up my clothes to show area.

  6. Dr Bornstein is a great practitioner. Knowledgeable and concerned. Her resident is a lovely guy who will do well in his practice.
