Dr. Anderson is an executive vice president of OHSU and dean of the OHSU School of Medicine. She began her leadership roles in 1994 as associate head then interim head of the OHSU Division of Nephrology and Hypertension, as well as chief of the Nephrology Section at the VA Portland Health Care System from 1995 to 2004. During the next decade, she served as vice chair for clinical affairs and also vice chair for VA affairs in the Department of Medicine, associate dean for Faculty Development and Faculty Affairs in the School of Medicine and chief of the Division of Hospital and Specialty Medicine in the VA. She became interim chair of medicine in 2013 and then chair. In July 2017, OHSU President Joe Robertson appointed Dr. Anderson as dean and executive vice president.

The focus of Dr. Anderson's research has been the pathophysiology of renal disease including risk factors, mechanisms and therapeutic interventions. Her special interests are in hypertension, chronic renal disease and diabetic kidney disease.
