Description
Not all women need ultrasounds in their third trimester. Your doctor may refer you for a 3rd-trimester ultrasound if there are signs of increased concern for you or your pregnancy or childbirth.
Your doctor may want you to have a 3rd trimester ultrasound if:
- You have had previous complications of pregnancy such as pre-eclampsia, growth restriction, diabetes, or stillbirth.
- You have a multiple pregnancy (twins, triplets).
- You are concerned about the movement of your baby/babies.
- There is concern that your baby has stopped growing.
Sometimes done in a series
If you have a higher-risk pregnancy, your pregnancy care may include a series of ultrasounds as we keep close watch over the health and development of your baby (or babies).
