Our certified nurse-midwives strongly support vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) as an option for women who have had a previous cesarean birth. We have a high success rate: about 80 percent of the women who try to give birth vaginally after a cesarean with us achieve their goal.
We understand that some births, whether vaginal or cesarean, can leave women feeling disappointed or saddened. Past birth experiences can have a profound effect on your health. Each woman comes to us with a unique set of health needs. We personalize your care and welcome an open dialogue with you.
Part of our work as nurse-midwives is to learn about the circumstances of your cesarean birth and to counsel you regarding your options. There are many factors that influence decision-making about VBAC. Some women will choose to try to have their next baby vaginally and others will not. Making this decision is very personal. We respect and honor your values and perspectives.
VBAC stories from OHSU patients
Many of our patients decided to prepare and deliver with the OHSU midwives because of our strong support for VBAC.
