Who We Are
The OCTRI Dissemination & Implementation (D&I) Core provides expertise, training, and consultation to help investigators accelerate the translation of evidence-based interventions and innovations into real-world practice. We build awareness and skills in D&I science across the translational spectrum, supporting sustainable adoption and impact.
The D&I Core offers tailored guidance to clinical, health services, and health system investigators, as well as targeted dissemination planning for basic and pre-clinical researchers preparing for downstream translation.
What We Do
The OCTRI D&I Core advances translation through the application of D&I science for researchers, health care professionals, and OCTRI partners. We support investigators through:
- Training and professional development
- Individual mentorship
- Methodological consultation
- Dissemination planning and support
Services
Training
Training and professional development opportunities
OCTRI D&I training and professional development includes skill-building opportunities that strengthen capacity in pragmatic D&I frameworks, methods, measures, and real-world evaluation approaches.
OCTRI's current D&I training opportunities are embedded in the OCTRI Human Investigations Program (HIP).
- HIP 537 Introduction to Implementation Science: Six week, online course provides an introduction to and overview of implementation science in the context of clinical research. More details on the HIP Course Descriptions web page (choose Elective Courses).
More seminars coming in 2027
Mentorship
Individual mentorship
The OCTRI D&I Core offers high-quality, tailored mentorship for investigators developing or refining D&I-focused research aims, proposals, and career trajectories.

Dissemination
Dissemination planning and support
The OCTRI D&I Core is building dissemination planning and support that will offer strategic guidance to help investigators design and execute effective dissemination plans that extend research impact to clinical, community, and policy audiences.

Resources
Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute D&I framework and toolkit
The Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) D&I framework is used to assess evidence, determine if broad or limited dissemination is appropriate, identify target audiences and engage partners to develop dissemination goals and plan, and determine when implementation is appropriate.
Evidence-based Practice to Implementation
When implementation is a next step for a research outcomes, the Evidence-based Practice to Implementation (EPIS) framework is used to assess phase of implementation (exploration, preparation, implementation, sustainability) and guide consultation and design. Read the publications linked below for more information on EPIS.
Advancing a Conceptual Model of Evidence-Based Practice Implementation in Public Service Sectors (2011)
Systematic review of the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, Sustainment (EPIS) framework
Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research
The Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) framework is used to identify factors that affect implementation, in order to proactively address barriers and accelerate translation of evidence into practice. Read the publications linked below for more information on CFIR.
Fostering implementation of health services research findings into practice: a consolidated framework for advancing implementation science (2009)
The updated Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research based on user feedback (2022)
Practice Change Model
The Practice Change Model (PCM) is used to attend to the dynamic relationship among factors that affect organizations when prioritizing, implementing, and sustaining change, expanding on the CFIR concept of “Inner Setting". Read the publication linked below for more information on PCM.
A practice change model for quality improvement in primary care practice (2004)
Dynamic Sustainability Framework
The Dynamic Sustainability Framework (DSF) is used to inform monitoring and adaptation, ensuring interventions evolve with organizational setting and larger ecological system change. Read the publication below to learn more about DSF.
Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance
The Reach, Effectiveness, Adoption, Implementation, Maintenance (RE-AIM) framework is used to inform evaluation of D&I projects and outcomes. Read the publication below to learn more about RE-AIM.
Understanding and applying the RE-AIM framework: Clarifications and resources (2021)

CTSA Compendium of D&I Catalogs
The CTSA Compendium of D&I Catalogs provides a curated list of resource catalogs relevant to the conduct of D&I science. The resource catalogs gathered here include frameworks/theories/models, methods/measures, funding resources, practice resources, and training. Included resource catalogs are curated by academic and non-profit organizations with expertise in D&I.
How to use the D&I Catalogs tool: Use the Sort and Filter functions below to view resources in categories of interest, or to view “featured resources.”
This resource was developed by the Clinical & Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program’s “Advancing Dissemination and Implementation Sciences in CTSAs” working group.
