Non-hormonal Birth Control Ring Study

Non-hormonal Birth Control Ring Study

We are seeking participants for a non-hormonal intravaginal contraceptive ring study. The purpose of this research is to investigate the efficacy of a non-hormonal ring, Ovaprene®, and its ability to provide continuous birth control for women between menstrual cycles.

The study device consists of a round piece of woven material surrounded by a soft, flexible rubber ring. It is inserted at the end of a person's period and worn until the start of the next period. The materials of the study product are slowly released during a woman’s cycle to create an environment that makes it more difficult for sperm to be mobile.

There will be 8 clinic visits and two phone contacts throughout 13 months of participation. Study activities include pelvic exams, urine pregnancy tests, two blood draws, and optional vaginal swabs or colposcopy exams (a procedure to closely examine your cervix).

Eligibility:

  • Age 18 through 40 years
  • In good general health
  • Sexually active people assigned female at birth, at risk for pregnancy and desiring contraception
  • Have regular menstrual cycles every 21 to 35 days
  • You are protected from pregnancy by non-hormonal contraception OR willing to stop your current method of hormonal contraception

Compensation:

Qualified participants will be compensated up to $520 for completed study visits.
