The salary levels for residents and fellows for the 2024 - 2025 academic year are outlined below. Biweekly salaries are determined by the level of postgraduate training completed within the United States.

• Incoming medical physics residents are paid at a PGY-1 level
• Incoming radiation oncology residents are paid at a PGY-2 level

Medical and physics residents are provided various plans from which to choose for medical, dental, vision, prescription and life insurances, with optional coverage including disability, AD&D and family coverage.  OHSU pays for most of the costs of the monthly premium for employees and part of the costs of the monthly premium for spouses and children. Residents will have default benefits on their first day physically working at OHSU.

For its medical residents, OHSU contributes into a 457(b) plan an amount equal to 3% of the salary earned during the preceding academic year. For medical residents, default benefit plan covers the individual resident only.

Resident Leave

OHSU's Graduate Medical Education (GME) offers generous paid time off to support medical residents in maintaining a healthy work-life balance and ensuring their well-being. Residents receive a combination of vacation days, sick leave, and additional time off to recharge, attend conferences, or address personal matters. These benefits promote resident wellness and contribute to improved patient care by reducing burnout and stress.

For the 2024 - 2025 academic year, medical resident leave includes: 20 days of paid time off (vacation), 15 working days of sick leave, four half-day wellness days, five days of educational leave, parental leave, family and medical leave, holiday leave, and much more.

For the 2024 - 2025 academic year, physics resident leave includes: up-to 26 days of paid time off, sick accruals that can be used to cover time off related to personal or family illness, conference leave, parental leave, family and medical leave, holiday leave, and much more. In accordance to CAMPEP Standard 2.14, resident may take up to eight weeks (40 workdays) per year over the duration of the residency without requiring an extension in their residency training. This 40-day limit includes various types of leave including vacation, bereavement leave, parental leave, medical leave (sick time), caregiver leave, military commitments, and other leave as determined by the program director.
