Training Sites
We offer a diverse range of clinical sites throughout the Portland metropolitan area and beyond, which our residents consistently recognize as a major strength of the program. The following four locations are where residents spend most of their time.

OHSU is the only academic health center in Oregon, comprised of adult and pediatric hospitals, a network of clinics, and several health care partners across the state. The main campus on Marquam Hill ("The Hill") is connected to the South Waterfront by the Portland Aerial Tram. In addition to providing primary and secondary care services to the people of Portland, OHSU Hospital is a major quaternary referral center for a diverse range of patients throughout Oregon, Southwest Washington, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and Northern California. With more than 500 staffed beds, it ranks among the top hospitals in the nation and #1 in the state.
Opening April 7, 2026, Vista Pavilion is the newest addition to the Marquam Hill campus. The 14-story tower will add 128 beds dedicated to cancer care while expanding capacity for brain and heart care in the main building.

The Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center (PVAMC) serves veterans across Oregon and Southwest Washington and functions as a major referral center for Idaho, Alaska, and Northern California. It provides the full continuum of inpatient, outpatient, long-term, and emergent care through a main tertiary care medical center, a campus in Vancouver, Washington, and multiple outpatient clinics across central and northwest Oregon. The Portland VA Hospital is physically connected to OHSU Hospital by a pedestrian skybridge, facilitating close collaboration. Many medical subspecialties at PVAMC are fully integrated with OHSU, with many faculty holding dual appointments at both institutions.

Central City Concern (CCC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides comprehensive services across sixteen sites. Its mission is to "help those struggling with life's biggest problems end or avoid homelessness and build healthy, housed, resilient, and engaged lives".
Old Town Clinic (OTC), located in downtown Portland, is a Healthcare for the Homeless program and was previously selected by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as one of the 30 exemplar practices. It functions as an integrated, patient-centered medical home, offering primary and preventive care, behavioral health services, addiction treatment, hepatitis C care, and complementary medicine to meet the needs of a complex and vulnerable population. OTC is staffed by OHSU internal medicine faculty. All residents rotate through OTC during their social medicine block, along with Hooper Detox clinic in Northeast Portland. Residents may also select OTC as their primary or secondary continuity clinic site.

Kaiser Permanente is a not-for-profit health maintenance organization (HMO) with a strong emphasis on primary care and outpatient medicine. Residents spend two blocks at Kaiser during their second year and often additional time during their third year. Most clinical experiences at Kaiser occur in outpatient general medicine and subspecialty clinics throughout the Portland metropolitan area. During their Kaiser rotation, residents participate in weekly health systems curriculum, attend weekly didactics focused on clinical practice, and prepare and deliver their own didactic case presentations to their peers.
