Congratulations Clinfowiki
We are pleased to report that Clinfowiki has reached a major milestone: 50 million total views! (as of February 29, 2024)
The OHSU Clinical Informatics Wiki (aka Clinfowiki) is the implementation of a wiki website devoted to topics in clinical informatics. Clinfowiki is the largest and most-utilized free crowdsourced clinical informatics knowledge base on the internet. It currently has 1581 content pages, and 1474 registered users have contributed to the wiki. There have been 34,592 page edits since the wiki was published, which is a surrogate measure indicating that Clinfowiki is a living depository of knowledge that is being actively updated over time.
Clinfowiki was created in 2005 by Dean Sittig PhD, who was faculty at DMICE at the time. His goal was "to provide clinical informaticians around the world a place to document and discuss many of the most important lessons they have learned in their day to day activities." When Dean moved to the University of Texas, Health Sciences Center at Houston, Vishnu Mohan MD MBI, Professor at DMICE, took over as Editor. Since then, the utilization of Clinfowiki has grown to what it presently is today.

Our own Bill Hersh won the inaugural HIMSS Oregon Chapter Lifetime Achievement Award for vision and leadership in healthcare technology and informatics. He was described as true pioneer in the field of informatics.

Students for Rare Publicized on OHSU Now
As Jennifer Sullivan dove into her studies and research as an OHSU School of Medicine Ph.D. student in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biomedicine graduate program, one thing became clear: investigating the molecular basis of rare disorders, while fascinating, was, itself, a rare endeavor in a department devoted to working with large datasets.
While the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE) supported her research into rare disorders, she would need to expand her community at OHSU to meet others who share her passion for understanding these diseases.
So she reached out to Susan Hayflick, M.D., Ph.D., professor and chair of molecular and medical genetics and a trailblazer and champion of rare disease research, to discuss her idea for a rare disease student interest group. Dr. Hayflick signed on as the faculty advisor for the group, together with Amanda McCullough, Ph.D., professor of molecular and medical genetics.
Dr. Hayflick also recommended a co-leader for the group: Michael Martinez, a student in the Ph.D. Program in Cellular and Molecular Biology. Martinez is studying PKU, an inherited disorder that can cause intellectual and developmental disabilities. Sullivan and Martinez had met informally in virtual classes during the Covid pandemic. Together, they founded the OHSU group Students for Rare in September, 2023.
