Health Promotion

The Oregon Office on Disability and Health shares health programs to help community members with disabilities live healthy lifestyles. Through these materials we hope to support and increase the health and wellness of the community.

Taking Charge of My Health Care Toolkit

  • The Taking Charge of My Healthcare Toolkit was made by the Oregon Self-Advocacy Coalition, the Oregon Office on Disability and Health and the University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities in 2020. This toolkit has information to help people be self-advocates.

The Toolkit is for people with intellectual or developmental disability who want to learn about being self-advocates. It is also for people who support people with disabilities. Support people can include family members, disability service providers, friends, and health care professionals.

The chapters in each topic are now available in Spanish as well.

Living Well in the Community

  • Living Well in the Community (LWIC) is a ten-week program focused on supporting individuals with disabilities in fostering self-reliance and confidence. Participants of LWIC gain valuable skills in goal setting, healthy reactions and communication, building support networks, eating well, being physically active, and communicating about what is important to them. To reach individuals with disabilities across the state with training, OODH partners with Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and other community-based organizations supporting individuals with mobility disabilities or intellectual and developmental disabilities.
