CHSE Launches WashingtonHealthCare Compare
08/21/18 Portland, Ore.
At the end of July, CHSE, the Lead Organization for the WashingtonState All-Payer Claims Database (WA-APCD) project, successfully launched an online tool that lets people compare cost and find quality health care by ZIP code in Washington State. This tool, a website called Washington HealthCareCompare (WAHCC), allows consumers to compare costs for more than 80 common health care services in WA and find quality health care. In the last 30 days, 2.5K people have visited the website.
Washington HealthCareCompare uses data from the WA-APCD, which is a collection of insurance claims information from both private and government-sponsored insurance programs, garnered from over 4 million Washington residents. WA's database is the result of proposed legislation by Gov. Jay Inslee in 2015.
Washington is one of 6 states in the country that has an all-payer claims database accessible to the public, and Lorie Geryk, the Senior Project Manager at CHSE, has worked with project partners to help ensure the successful rollout of WA's APCD and WAHCC.
"We are thrilled to debut the new WAHCC website to consumers who can now shop for services and quality care and make better informed healthcare decisions. We want Washingtonians to get the most out of every dollar they spend" says Geryk. WA-APCD data products, such as data extracts, are also available to researchers, agencies and other entities for purchase. Geryk looks forward to seeing how the WA-APCD information is used over time to answer important health care related questions.
