Peri- and Post-menopause and IUD use – Understanding Patient Preferences

What is this study about and why is it being done?

A group of six people stand side by side with their arms around each other’s shoulders, viewed from behind. They wear colorful clothing in shades of orange, teal, brown, pink, and blue, and appear to be smiling and connecting as a group. The background is white.

The Women’s Health Research Unit at OHSU is looking for adults of peri- and post-menopausal age (ages between 45-60) who can participate in a 90- minute virtual (online) focus group discussion study. The goal of the focus group discussions is to better understand how people describe their experience with hormonal IUD during this time of transitions and use or consideration of menopause hormone replacement therapy (HRT). We would like to better understand the experiences, values, perspectives, concerns and preferences of peri- and post-menopause individuals using an IUD.

To do this, we are conducting small virtual group discussions. Participation will include 2 visits, a screening visit and the focus group discussion visit.

During this study you will:

  • Participate in a focus group discussion (about 90 minutes long)

Who can join?

  • People between 45 and 60 years of age
  • People currently using hormonal intrauterine device (IUD)
  • People currently using hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or considering using HRT
  • People fluent in English

Compensation

Qualified participants will be compensated up to $60 for completing the focus group discussion.
