Implant Extension Study

Merck Extension Study Photo

The etonogestrel implant is approved for use to prevent pregnancies for up to 3 years. It has not been approved to use for more than 3 years. This trial will also study the amount of etonogestrel hormone that is released from the implant into your body when it is used for more than 3 years.

This trial is being done to find out if using the etonogestrel implant (MK-8415) for more than 3 years:

  • Is safe
  • Is tolerable
  •  Continues to prevent pregnancy
  • Affects the menstrual cycle
  • Causes complications when it’s removed

Eligibility:

  • Using an etonogestrel implant as your only method of contraception for at least 36 months
  • Are 35 years or younger
  • At risk for pregnancy

Compensation:

You may be compensated $75  per completed visit to cover the cost of your time and travel. Additional travel expenses may be covered. This will be discussed with you by the trial doctor or trial staff.
