Diabetes Education
Managing diabetes is extremely important, regardless of what type of diabetes you have. Long-term complications or problems can be prevented or delayed by managing diabetes. Complications or problems with body systems such as the heart, skin, digestive, nerve, bone and dental may all be affected.
The risk of developing complications can be reduced by:
- Keeping track of your blood glucose
- Eating a healthy diet
- Thirty minutes of daily exercise
- Taking your diabetes medications as prescribed
- Having a support person(s) who understands diabetes
- Becoming informed about diabetes through a diabetes educator
- Connecting to diabetes-related resources and communities:
- Social media diabetes forums such as our Facebook group
- Join a diabetes support group
- Take a diabetes class
- Learn about diabetes camps for your child.
- Read a book from the American Diabetes Association's selection.
- Volunteer for the JDRF, American Diabetes Association or other diabetes organizations.
- Adventure outdoors via Slipstream, if you are an adult living with type 1 diabetes.
- Find these resources and more on our list of Community Connections.
